Tom Swanston

Graduating in 1980 in the first Masters of Fine Arts degree program offered by Parsons School of Design, New York, NY. He participated in a year of studio work at the Artist for Environment, in the Delaware Water Gap, NJ. Swanston matriculated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, NY. in 1978 with a Bachelor of Art. His undergraduate degree included study in London and at the New York Studio School, New York, NY.
Swanston moved from New York to Atlanta in 1982 where he was a co-founder of a successful fine art consulting firm & gallery. Selling the business in 1989 Swanston returned full time to his art making. Periodically Swanston has taught at the GLCA New York Arts Program, New York, NY and within the University of Georgia system. He has lectured on Drawing at The Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD.
Swanston servers on the Board of Trustees for the national service organization, Alliance of Artists Communities and the Serenbe Institute as the Chairman of the Artist in Residence Program. “Pioneer” residents of Serenbe, he and his wife, artist Gail Foster, are owners of StudioSwan, the first fine art studios in Serenbe.
Swanston has exhibited his art work in 14 solo and 46 group gallery exhibitions – He has been included in 8 museum exhibitions and published in over 61 trade and lifestyles magazines. Swanston has been awarded two Ford Foundation grants, a Rubenstein Foundation grant and has been a Fellow at the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences.
Swanston’s work is included in private and corporate collections in China, Dubai, France, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, USVI, the Caribbean, and the United States.
